Fine Georgian Sterling Silver Wine Label for \'PORT\'Made by Hester Bateman in London c1775
This is a wonderful solid Sterling Silver \'Port\' Label by the highly regarded Lady Silversmith,Hester Bateman, which dates to around 1775. The label has beautiful hand chased engraving with fine feather edge decoration and is inscribed with the legend \'PORT\'(please see the detailed close-up photographs provided, which form an integral part of the item\'s description).Overall, the label is in great condition with the following good clear marks stamped on the reverse:
Maker\'s Mark - \'HB\' for Hester Bateman and Lion Passant - for Sterling Silver
It does have some minor surfacepitting aroundthe letter \'P\', which isn\'t really noticeable to the naked eye (please remember the photographs are x3 magnification) and could be easily polished out but really just mentioning for descriptive completeness.
