This has the RARE and HIGHLY collectible Dragons Breath Opal in a cabochon that is brilliant and fire filled.
Dragon\'s Breath is the namegiven toa rare and highly collected man-made glass stone that was used in jewelry making around the early 1900\'s. Most of the settings you find are 925 sterling. Dragon\'s Breath aka; Mexican Glass Opal, Glass Jelly Opal, or Glass Fire Opal are names that the stone has picked up. Pleaseremember that these stonesareglass and not an opal!Dragon\'s Breath is aglassthat was made to resemble a Mexican fire opal. Costume jewelry stones that are confused with a Dragon\'s Breath are man-made glass jelly opals or glass foil opals like the man-made Harlequin Glass Foil Opal. I stress that these stonesare glass and are not opals.The better makes the stone is usually faceted at the base where it meets the Bezel as this one is.Women\'s size Medium to large.
This is marked Sterling and an early makers mark of a Kachina doll figure which I could not find a reference for.
Quite frankly I think these older pieces are of GREAT quality compared to some of the work today.
