STUNNING TRAVELLING LOCK DOWN STERLING SILVER INKWELL DESKTOP VICTORIAN BOX 1864:

This is for a lovely old Victorian cut glass travelling lock down inkwell with a sterling silvertop. It has a lock down lid that hasan ornatepattern engraved into the silvertop and the screw.Thescrew locks the lid down to the base, and when tightthe lid is sealed with theleather seal on the underside, thus allowing safe transit for the inkwell and no spilt ink ! It is hallmarked in several placeswith full English sterling silver hallmarks that date it to London1864 along with a makers mark JH.It is in excellent condition with no splits or holes in the silver and no dents or repairs. Even the leather seal and silver panel that holds it is still present and they look perfect. The glass is deep cut with no staining and it displays beautifully, there is hardly anything to detract on this inkwell, its as good as they come, there are a couple of tiny littleflea bites to the veryedges of the base, but thats all. Thebase measures 80mm (3\") by 30mm (1.25\") by 35mm (1.3\") high.
