Captain Sumner Sewall [1897 1965]was an American ace fighter pilot of World War I, who was credited with [7] seven confirmed aerial victories. In 1917, Sewallserved withthe American Ambulance Field Service in France and then joined the U.S Air Service and was assigned to the 95th Aero Squadron. He was laterpromoted to flight commander and was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross with Oak Leaf Clusters, French Legion of Honor, the Croixde guerre and theCrown of Belgium.In 1941, hewas elected as the 58th Governor of Maine and serveduntil 1945. Listed for sale is a [TLS] typed letter signedby Sumner Sewall on his personal letterhead and dated February 21, 1961. The letteris addressed to a collectorand is signed \'\'Sumner Sewall\'\'inblue fountainpen above his typed name. The letter measures 8.50 x10.00 inches andis in finecondition.
