Superb Antique Indian Kashmir Silver Perfume/Spice Box Incense Box 19th c:

This superbantiquePersian miniature incense/spice box was made by a highly skilled Kashmir silversmith.

The boxis made of high content silver which is done in a rounded square form.

The photos do not do this box justice. The intricacy and detail is astounding with an all over brilliant arabesque streaming

leaf and vine pattern. Thisdesign is known as the \"Mosaic Pattern\" and is very highly regarded.

The pierced ornate silverlid is pierced around the finial. It is interesting to note that each flower in the pierced

decorationcontains a hole forits centre. The sides of the box arenot pierced. The box has a pleasing shape and

although I couldn\'t find a makers mark it wascreated by a skilled,artisan. It is heavy for its size and is made

of solid silver. I have not tried to polish the inside but it appears to have been used for burning incense at some time.

I can see a tiny mark which is probably the makers mark on the foot of the vessel. It is far too small to decipher.

This box is heavy and solid for its diminutive size.
