Skilfully hand made by skilled Mandean silversmiths near Amarah in Iraq.
It is made from a good gauge of high purity solid silver and features beautiful and fine quality nielloed scenes. The lid depicts a scene on the river Euphrate with a Grand Mosque on the far sore and date palms on the fore shore, as boats pass by on the river itself. The sides depict the ancient Persian ruins at Csetiphon, camels, date palms and reed beds, sailing boats as well as other vessels on the Euphrates.
Tactile and beautifully proportioned with a diameter of 51.5mm and height of 26mm.
Superb and beautiful Antique Iraqi solid silver and Niello Box and a rare and interesting aspect of fine Islamic art.
