We have a number of really fine mid-late 1800s Italian micromosaic frames to list, each of which dates between c.1860-1900, and would have been Grand Tour souvenirs to that very early era of travelers who visited Italy. The mosaic is entirely worked in tiny bits of colored glass called \"tesserae\" and these are spectacular. Come and see! This one is a late 1800s mirror frame worked into a carved out wooden basin and in a stylized sliver to full moon round, it grows thicker to one side making a sliver moon effect, almost, in the rich garland of florals worked in glass tesserae. The old original thick beveled vanity glass is still intact and without chips or breaks, though you see it has some age showing to the silvering. We\'ve often corrected that by stripping the old silvering off and backing the thick old glass with a panel of newer mirror for a pristine look but to keep the old beveled glass in place. We can do this for a buyer if asked. Some prefer to keep the old silvering. Very good to excellent condition for age and type, the florals are gorgeous on this larger old frame, and those in wood basins are increasingly hard to find, higher in cost. The tesserae are all or very nearly all in perfect placement. There is a 3-D working to this one and centers and leaves recede a bit so if you note that the coloration makes it seem a glass tesserae is missing, it is not the case but is just that it is set a bit deeper than others. I see no missing tesserae, myself, though there is one white area space that might have had a very thin one in place initially as there is one spot into which the artisan might have placed just a thinnest bit, and it is easy to see in our images. Not sure about it being missing so much as never there. But it might be an open spot that was once filled. Very firm there, I will add. Superb old frame with the most popular 3-D method of bouquet, too. LOVE this one!

As always, please also feel free to contact us if you have any problems or concerns, we\'ll do what we can to ensure a happy and mutually enjoyable transaction.

Insurance has been eliminated as an option by , forcing us sellers to either ship your items without insurance or assume that expense also. We always insure our items BUT, more importantly, pack them extremely well knowing that most are not replacable. Again, damage in transit, while rare in our experience, is due to the postal agency handling and not caused by Antiques & Uncommon Treasure. Please remember that when leaving DSR ratings. Thanks!
