Chinese Inside-PaintedGlass Snuff Bottle, Xiwangmu on Crane

Attributed to Geng Zi Zhong Xia

This is a superbflat, rounded,Snuff Bottle made with clear glass during the Early part of the 20th century. It is painted from the inside with bright colors. It depicts on one side, Xiwangmu, the \'Queen Mother of the West\' , a Chinese goddess known from the ancient times, as the dispenser of prosperity, longevity, and eternal bliss. She is shown seated on a large crane sailing through space. On the other side, it depicts a number of objects that symbolize \'Good Fortune\' in China:

The blossoming plum branch on the vase symbolizes the \'Five Blessings\' (Strength of character, moral integrity, fortitude, perseverance, and blessedness or luck); a teapot conveys the meaning of \'to protect\';a pot with\'Buddha\'s hand lemon, or citron, symbolizes happiness and prosperity

Snuff Bottle isunsigned, but it is attributed to Geng Zi Zhong Xia,who made the bottleshown in photo #6,in mid-summer 1900, which is displayed in \'snuffbottlecollecotor.com\'. It is in excellent preserved condition.
