Superb LARGE Antique English St. GEORGE Button Down EBONY & BOXWOOD CHESS SETWonderful large 19th century Victorian St. George \"Button Down\" pattern chess set, beautifully turned in ebony and boxwood with the kingside rooks and knights having applied white or black button details. This set is complete and remains in extremely good condition. Complete with original sliding top box and cardboard board (as acquired).

This really is a beautiful and handsome set as I hope you can see from the photographs. Fabulous condition - One small chip to each of the black rooks; no further damage. Box base has a split but is holding up despite; just needs a little wood filler repair. Box lid also has an old repair. Board is in good strong condition with some rubbing/bumping to corners and spine ends.No maker\'s or other marks.Kings measure approx. 4. 1/8\" (10.5cm) tall, queen 3.5\" (9cm) tall with a ball top diameter 1\" (2.5cm). Pawns measure approx. 1 7/8\" (4.7cm) tall. Box measures 7.75\" (19.5cm) x 5.5\" (14cm) x 3.5\" (9cm). Combined Weight 1486g.
