Superb large George II silver twin handled pedestal cup/porringer with central reeded band and later embossed decoration of grapes and vine leaves. This later decoration is of the finest quality, very crisp and with fine bright cut engraving to bring out texture and detail. Further engraved bands around the foot and on top of the flat thumb rests. Hallmarked for London 1759 and maker\'s mark for Benjamin Cartwright I, additionally initialled to the handles.
It measures 5\" high, 7\" across the handles and 3 7/8\" rim to rim. It weighs a substantial 413g/13.3 ozt. Condition is good; there have been some small areas of repair to the handles and a small section of solder under the foot but doesn\'t show inside. No damage or dents and very light surface wear for age; the hallmarks are lovely and clear.
