Superb Midcentury Oil Painting Boy in Blue Sweater – NY School Patteran Society:
$750.00

Midcentury painting by Grace Barron (1899-1987), titled “Boy in Blue Sweater,” in original striated wooden frame, original “Rockport Art Association” label on back, signed in lower right corner. EXCEPTIONAL artwork, strikingly executed with deep, rich colors - the boy\'s gaze is haunting, the portrait both powerful and delicate. Even the framing is impressive.

Oil measures 16” by 10.25”, total dimensions 22” by 16”. In excellent condition.

The info I found on the artist states that she had ties to New York City, Rockport, Massachusetts, and Buffalo: “Born in Buffalo, New York. As of 1946 she was a resident of New York City, where she was an instructor at the Little Red School House of Art. Represented in permanent collection of Albright Art Gallery, Buffalo and in private collections. Awards: Patteran Purchase Prize - Buffalo 1934; Water Color Prize, Albright Gallery, 1937; Mennro Alexander Reeb, Drawing Prize 1943. Member Rockport Art Association, Patteran Society of Buffalo, New York.”

In 2012, a pair of her watercolors sold for just over $1,000 at Skinner sale house.

An extensive biography on the artist exists at the web site for Meibohm Fine Arts, where it\'s stated that she was a member of the National Association of Women Artists and that her work is in the collection of the Albright-Knox.
