This is a remarkable pair of antique earrings dating to the 19th century. This is a stunning set of accessories with an elegant, noticeably antique look. The earrings feature a beautiful group of four rose cut diamonds in round and pear shapes. The rose cut diamonds are set in the Georgian style with closed backs. Unfortunately, the closed back setting prevents us from calculating the diamonds\' carat weight. The diamonds range from SI to I clarity, and IJK color. The earrings are very nicely crafted in what may be low karat (e.g. 8k or 9k) gold. The gold earring backs do not quite hold up as 10k gold when tested, but we do not have the supplies to test for 8k or 9k gold. The earrings are unmarked.
The earrings are for pierced ears, with lever-back closures. The lever-backs are newer than the Georgian style rose cut diamonds and settings. It\'s most likely that these earrings were assembled from a much older diamond set from the early or mid 19th century, and updated with more secure earring backs. Despite the unanswered questions about the earrings, this is a truly exceptional set of accessories. The earrings are accompanied by a period fitted case lined with green velvet and cream silk.
Measurements: Wearable length of 3/4\" x 3/8\" across. Round rose cut diamonds measure about 4mm and 3.75mm in diameter. The pear shaped rose cut diamonds measure about 7.13mm x 5.8mm and 7.03mm x 5.3mm.
Weight: 3.7 grams
Condition: In overall very attractive condition with some general surface wear consistent with age and normal use.
