This is a stunning solid silver teapot made by the prestigious silversmith Robert Hennell and fully hallmarked for London 1844.The teapot has a beautiful bright-cut engraving on the bullet shaped body.Hennell has shown his skill in three areas of the teapot.The handle has been made to resemble the figurehead of a ship. It shows a Greek female head with braided locks and down the handle are arc shaped each laid upon the other.The spout is of a mythical bird with the beak being the opening for water.The finial on the lid is cast with leaves and flowers.These three features with the bright-cut engraving make this a work of art.There is an unusual family crest of wings coming out of a crown and in the centre a cross within a circle.Hallmarks are very clear and show R.H for maker Robert Hennell III, London assay mark, Lion Passant for sterling, Queen’s Head and date letter T for 1844.Inside the lid is hallmarked with Lion Passant and date letter T and the floral finial is hallmarked with R.H, Lion Passant and Queen’s Head which show that these pieces are all original.The teapot measures just less than 7 inches in height and from handle to spout is 9.5 inches and weighs 720 grams.Condition is very good for a teapot 172 years of age with surface marks as expected from an item of this age.The bright-cut engraving is crisp and clear.The features on handle, spout and finial show no wear.The crest which is on both sides of the teapot is more rubbed on one side.All and all this is an exceptional piece of English silver.PLEASE HAVE A LOOK AT MY OTHER ITEMSI ship WORLDWIDE
