Charles John Noke (1858-1941) ...

An English pottery designer and artist who primarily worked for Royal Doulton. He is noted for producing many different ranges of pottery using differing techniques and was also hugely influential in helping Doulton establish itself as a world leader. After he joined Doulton in 1889 he became the Art Director and was able to affect all aspects of production at the Burslem site and in doing so instigated a revolution in both design and production turning Doulton into the leading art manufacturer of the age.

Noke\'s greatest achievement was the creation of a range of experimental transmutation glazed wares that are at best as good as anything produced atSevres, Copenhagen, Dresdenor even in the Far East. These ranges, the Flambes, Titanian, Sung, Chinese Jade, Chang and Crystalline represent one of the greatest contributions to studio pottery made by a large British manufacturer in the last century. He is also well known for launching the HN figurines (named after Harry Nixon who was in charge of the figure painting department). This naming convention for figurines still endures today.

Tigers ...

Thetigeris the largestcat species, reaching a total body length of up to 3.38m (11.1ft) over curves and exceptionally weighing up to 388.7kg (857lb) in the wild. Its most recognisable feature is a pattern of dark vertical stripes on reddish-orange fur with a lighter underside.Tigers are apex predators, primarily preying ondeer and bovids. They are territorial and generallysolitary but socialanimals, often requiring large contiguous areas of habitat that support their prey requirements. This, coupled with the fact that they are indigenous to some of the more densely populated places on Earth, has caused significantconflicts with humans.

Tigers once ranged widely acrossAsia, fromTurkeyin the west to the Eastern coast ofRussia. Over the past 100 years, they have lost 93% of their historic range, and have been extirpated from southwest and central Asia, from the islands ofJava and Bali, and from large areas ofSoutheast and Eastern Asia. Today, they range from the Siberiantaigato opengrasslandsand tropicalmangroveswamps. The remaining six tiger subspecies have been classified asendangered by IUCN. The global population in the wild is estimated to number between 3,062 and 3,948 individuals, down from around 100,000 at the start of the 20th century, with most remaining populations occurring in small pockets isolated from each other, of which about 2,000 exist on theIndian subcontinent.Major reasons for population decline includehabitat destruction, habitatfragmentation and poaching. The extent of area occupied by tigers is estimated at less than 457,497 sq miles a 41% decline from the area estimated in the 6.5 inches or 16.5 cm

Length: 7.25 inches or 18.4 cm

Depth: 4.75 inches or 12.1 cm
