Superb and Rare - EARLY ENGLISH BRASS BASTING SPOON, 16th or 17th Century :

A fine and very rare English brass spoon of nice weight with a long thin handle culminating in a pierced triangular hanging loop;the bowl of deep hemispherical form; circa 1550 - 1700.
This shape of this spoon is reminiscent of early silver examples and we think this is a really early example, maybe even earlier than we have suggested. It is 10 1/2 inches in overall length with a deep bowl for pouring liquids - itmaybe a basting spoon - and a long thin handle with a loop at the other end for suspension.
The condition is great with no defects other than those minor examples that seem to have occurred in the manufacture (see thephotographs provided). There is some wear on the front side of the bowl from years of use (see the photos in the accompanying sequence).
