This is a superb antique Victorian Chester hallmarked 1897 sterling silver repousse work snuff box made by James Deacons & sons. The quality is exquisite and there is even a tiny amount of snuff still in the bottom of the box! The hallmarks can be viewed inside the box on the bottom.
The box has makers mark JD over WD, the wheat sheaves for Chester assay office, the lion for sterling silver and date letter O for 1897 . The box dimensions are 5.0 x 3.8 x 2.2 cm ( two x one and a half x just under one inch ) and the weight is 21.1 grams. The box lid and hinge work perfectly and are in lovely condition. The box top cartouche has initials AL engraved and date 1898.
