This is a superb quality big 14 carat gold antique Victorian circa 1890 Scottish agate brooch. The stone is an incredible quality multi agate form Scottish agate in wonderful condition.I have collected agates in Scotland for over 20 years and know where most of the lovely gemstones that Victorians used for their classic jewellery were found.
The stunning stone is multi agate form section of Luthrie agate from Fife. The different forms include vein, fortification and moss agate to form an exquisite and incredibly beautiful stone.
The brooch has no hallmarks which is fairly normal for pieces from this period but has been fully tested by a local jeweller and is 14 carat gold. The width is 4.8 cm ( Just under two inches ) and the pin and C clasp are in good working condition and original.
