This is a superb antique Victorian dated 1884 sterling silver Scottish thistle and Cairngorm citrine brooch.The quality is fabulous with a wonderful inscription on the back. The brooch front has a stunning cast garland of thistles in exquisite condition.I have collected agates in Scotland for over 20 years and know where most of the lovely gemstones that Victorians used for their classic jewellery were found.
The central stone is a fabulous facetted golden citrine from the Cairngorm mountain range that has been fully tested by a local jeweller and is a genuine citrine.
The brooch has no hallmarks which is fairly normal for pieces from this period but has been fully tested by a local jeweller and is sterling silver. The width is 4.3 cm ( One and three quarter inches ) and the pin and C clasp are in good working condition and original.The brooch has it\'s original loop on the back to fit a safety chain if required.
