This is a superb antique Victorian circa 1890 sterling silver Scottish carved agate brooch.
I have collected agates in Scotland for over 20 years and know where most of the lovely gemstones that Victorians used for their classic jewellery were found.
The stunning stone is a carved carnelian agate from near Cupar in Fife. The agate is in beautiful condition with exquisite carving.
The brooch has no hallmarks which is fairly normal for pieces from this period but has been fully tested by a local jeweller and is sterling silver.The length is 3.4 cm ( One and a third inches ) and the brooch has an original pin and C clasp in good working condition.
