This is a superb large antique Victorian circa 1890 sterling silver Scottish agate anchor brooch.The stones are all in beautiful condition and have been exquisitely inset level with the silver surface.
I have collected agates in Scotland for over 20 years and know where most of the lovely gemstones that Victorians used for their classic jewellery were found.
The stones are in beautiful condition and any lines you see are just natural markings in the stone and not damage of any kind.
The brooch has no hallmarks which is fairly normal for pieces of this period but has been fully tested and is sterling silver. The length is large at 5.8 cm ( two and a third inches ) and the pin and C clasp are in good working condition and original as is the loop on the back to fit a safety chain if required.
