This is a superb large quality antique Victorian period circa 1890 sterling silver Scottish Cairngorm citrine and smokey quartz brooch.
I have collected agates in Scotland for over 20 years and know where most of the lovely gemstones that Victorians used for their classic jewellery were found.
The stones are classic foil backed champagne citrines in the silver cups surrounding a large oval quality facetted smokey quartz stone in the centre all from the Cairngorm mountain range. The stones have been fully tested by a local jeweller and are genuine stones.
The brooch has no hallmarks which is fairly normal for pieces from this period but has been fully tested and is sterling silver. The length is large at 4.7 cm ( Just under two inches ) and the pin and locking clasp are in lovely working condition although the clasp is not original. The brooch has it\'s original loop on the back to fit a safety chain and pin if required.
