Walt Disney\'s Sword in the Stone was Disney\'s 18th animated feature, based on the T.H. White masterpiece (The Once and Future King). It was the last film released before Disney\'s death.
This is a wonderful Art Corner cel of MIM, the female wizard. The Art Corner store at Disneyland sold cels long before they became the huge collectible they are now. Cels were cut down to standard sizes, put in cheaper mats and included a gold sticker on the back. Of course the provenance on these today is wonderful, and in many cases they are some of the best surviving art from these features.
This is no exception. It\'s a wonderful close-up of Mim from the moment when she demonstrates her re-sizing capabilities (we\'ve included a screen cap). It has some waving to it (the waving is exaggerated by our scanner - there is some slight wave to the cel, but the scanner puts more light into the curves). Also, the front of the mat is aged and has blemishes, etc. The cels themselves are good. An inscription has been drawn on the mat in marker - and we\'ve seen this on a number of Art Corner cels, so we think this was done before sale or at point of purchase by an animator, since the hand is particularly steady and perfect. But if anyone out there DOES know the specifics, please let us know as we\'ve been interested for years.
The size of the mat is 10\" x 12\" and the opening is 8 1/4\" x 6 1/4\". And we\'ll include a Charles Scott Gallery COA.
