Please read description carefully, examine all pics closely as they are part of the description, and ask any questions before buying!Up for sale is an original three quarter leather covered Bible containing the \"New Testament\" translated into English from the Syriac Peshitta version, by James Murdock, published (undated - but by my reckoning, late 1800\'s or so) by Scriptural Tract Repository, H.L. Hastings, Boston, Mass. In addition to the translated text of Matthew through Revelation by James Murdock, it contains: a Historical Introduction and a Biographical Sketch of the Translator by Horace L. Hastings, Preface by James Murdock, Appendix I (Distribution of the Syria New Testament into Lessons as Read in the Public Worship), Appendix II (The Syriac Translations of The New Testament, by Isaac H. Hall, curator of the Metropolitan Museum of New York City 1885-1896), and ads. Also a nice picture of Mr. Murdock, with his facsimile signature.This edition is in good to very good condition, it does has some wear and tear as would be expected - it is somewhat delicate and needs to be handled with care. Three quarter leather covers show shelf and edge wear, bumped corners, binding is pretty solid, name stamped inside the front cover along with a laid in article and the shadow on the following page, no loose pages, bad smells, etc. that I could see. I would ask you to see the pics to get a good idea of it\'s condition, and I would be happy to answer any and all questions, or provide more pictures if needed. I am not a book grader, so see the pics, and you be the judge! This would be an awesome authentic addition to your collection, or a great gift for that collector in your life, and would look great sitting in your library! This measures about 8-7/8\" x 6-1/8\" x 1-1/2\".For the Watch Tower or Bible collector: The Watch Tower Bible & Tract Society had advertisements for James Murdock\'s translation as seen in some volumes of Studies in the Scriptures and elsewhere. Also, according to the book Watchtower Publications Valuations Guide, H.L. Hastings, who wrote the introduction of this edition, \"was an associate of George Storrs and publisher for Henry Grew and Nelson Barbour. He also knew the Wendell brothers, Rufus and Jonas. His writings were immensely influential in the development of brother Russell\'s views and on the format and design of some Watchtower publications such as Old Theology Quarterly and Daily Heavenly Manna. He is mentioned in early issues of Zion\'s Watch Tower.\" Note also that Hasting\'s speech \"The Inspiration of the Bible\" was published in the March 1883 Zion\'s Watch Tower. These are but a few examples of Hastings\' ties to the early beginnings of Charles Taze Russell and the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society. Many references have been made as well to the Peshitta version of the \"New Testament\" by the WTB&TS.
