SaintApostle Andrew the First Called was at first a disciple of John the Baptizeralong with John the Theologian. When the Precursor pointed out Jesus as theChrist, they both became His disciples. He is considered to be the first man tobring the Christianity to Russia.His feasts are on 30 June (13 July) and 30 November (13 December).

Thismodern Russian Orthodox icon was painted by a modern professional church artistat the Russian town Yaroslavl (not far from Moscow) that is one of themain and old centers of the Russian icon painting.

Theicon was painted on a very old (at least 19 c.) wooden board covered withlevkas (gesso, special priming) with egg tempera. The style is traditional andstrictly follows antique canons of the icon painting.

Thereare two original wooden wedges at the top and the bottom edges of the board toprevent it from warping.

Size= 12x9.8x0.9 (30.5x25x2.3 cm). Weight = 960 gr.
