THE CENTURY ATLAS OF THE WORLD (The Century Dictionary and Cyclopedia Volume X) - 1899 3/4Leather. This 9\" x 12\", 2 inch thick volume was copyright in 1899* by the publisher, The Century Co., of New York. The last volume in a ten volume reference set, the Atlas is a separate work of its own. The book has brown leather around the spine and on the outer corners with 4 raised spine ribs and gilt trim and lettering. The boards are covered in black cloth. The end papers and outer page edges are marbled. The book has several historical and astronomical maps, 118 double page colored maps with some insets, and a 402 page index to these maps. The book is in Very Good- condition, with the cover showing only very moderate edge and corner wear, little other wear, and with the gilt retaining a bright shine; and with the interior showing the text block separated from the spine with a split between contents pages with the front board swinging away(a clean break, with the front end papers through second contents page still attached to the board), the beginning of separation between text blocks between maps 118 and 119, and very moderate signs of handling on title area pages, while otherwise being very clean, flat, and tight.
The preface at the front of the volume calls it \"the edition of 1899\".
