Fair Condition hardcover book.

Exterior: Leather binding is heavily shopworn, stained. Front and back panels are detached (not missing). Gilt lettering and ornamentation on spine. Gilt trim on spine side edge of panels and on outside corners of panels. Spine back is cracked.

Interior: Numbers in pencil in top corner of Contents page. Several beginning pages are loose and there are a few cracked gutters. Old fashioned rag paper is in very good condition, clean, smooth, barely toned; a few outside edges have small creases/chips. All of the illustrated plates have been clipped out/removed (single page has text clipped - most likely an in-text illustration). Pages facing illustrations are toned from them - one can \"see\" the illustration in the toning. 280 pages plus index. It appears to be complete, other than the illustrations.

Contents: See photos for table of contents. Dating from the early 1800\'s, this is a rare and excellent reference for those interested in English history. Double spaced text is easy to read and interesting: \"The number of persons maintained in this [Workhouse] asylum amounts to seven hundred and fifty. In the school of industry there are three hundred children...those who are able to work are employed in needlework, slop-work, pulling and winding cotton for tallow-chandlers, spinning mop and carpet yarn, picking horse hair for upholsterers, making hat boxes, &c.\" This is also a great offer for collectors of old books- this could be restored with quality prints of the original illustrated plates.
