This outstanding movie stars George Bancroft as a big city gangster
who gets drafted into the army. Once there, his leadership skills
stand him in good stead as he rises in the ranks in battle. When a
young man he\'s befriended dies in a battle, he decides to stop off
and visit the boy\'s parents after the war. Once there, he\'s surprised
to learn of the stories the boy wrote home about him and he soon
accepts the job of chief of police. But the city soon becomes besieged
by gangsters, including his former rival, a vicious killer bent on taking over
the city with his men. Very well done film directed by John Cromwell co-stars
Warner Oland, Esther Ralston, Dorothy Revier and Raymond Hatton.
