ANTIQUE TIBETAN/CHINESE GILT BRONZE YAMA buddha qing 18th/19TH C 6.75\" china tib:
$2050.00

From my personal collection:A very good quality gilt bronze figure of Yama Dharmaraja, 18th/19th century. He is comprised of twoseparately cast components: (1)the salient Yama figure with staff, which is solid cast, atop his vehicle (2) a bull over a recumbent deity on an oval lotus base. He is missing his consort, Chamundi, and one attribute, butotherwise in very goodto excellent condition for its age with almost no wear to the original gilding and polychrome. See pictures for further details. Very heavy pieceand ofgood size; approximately 6.75 inches tall. Base is sealed with the double dorje/double vajra mark....Also, please note that this listing is for the Yama statue only. The other statues in the last photo are not for sale in this listing.

A nearly identical example can be found here for an explanation as to why the two pieces are so similar refer to Pratapaditya Pal in his Book, Art of Tibet:

\"sometimes small bronzes were cast from matrices, presumably when the demand was great and where there was a brisk trade in religious souveniers. This is why one often encounters identical bronzes which have minor differences and rather perfunctory finishes...\" (P.Pal, Art of Tibet: A Catalogue of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art Collection, p.187)

Interpret the above quote however you wish. \"Perfunctory finish\" is an odd statement (Dr pal also adds that Vonschroeder describese similarly cast pieces as having \"a certain charm\").But, although I amunable to capture this bronzeat the exact (I\'m not a professional)same anglewith the same lighting in photos, the similarities between this and the BonhamsStatue are uncanny. If you were to remove the polychrome from this piece, the only detectable difference between this and the Bonhamsstatuewould be how the lines were chased post casting. The Bonhamsstatue fetched a significant amount of money at sale. This piece is incomplete, so the price is less.
Another example similar in style, but slightly smaller in size (5.6 inches), from the same time period can be found here for sold for $2896 USD (with chf to usd conversion and buyer premium).
Any questions, please ask.... Just a disclaimer: this sale is final. No Returns! It is my well researched opinion that this bronze is from the time period indicated in this description. I have cited reputable examples and a very authoritative book to substantiate my attribution. But due diligence is the responsibility of the buyer. You are required to get professional opinions prior to the purchase of this gilt bronze figure of Yama. My reason for selling? Honestly, I don\'t want to part with this bronze, but my wife and I feel the time is right to stop renting and start saving towards our first home purchase. Otherwise, I would keep this nice statue forever. All customs, duties, taxes or fees of any kind at the buyer\'s destination are the responsibility of the buyer. Buy it now price is firm. My price barely covers what I paid for it plus paypal and fees. US buyers to pay a flat $20 shipping and insurance. International buyers to pay actual shipping and insurance. I doubt you will find another authentic, gilt bronzewrathful deity of this size at this price. Or You could waste your money on fakes like this it does not sell here, no big deal. I\'ll just keep this statue. Thanks for your interest!
