Up for sale is this exceptional 1940s Native American Navajo coin silver concho belt with 13 conchos plus belt buckle. The deep stamp work is amazing. Each concho is uniquely designed, stamped by hand, and has a reeded edging as you would see in any American coin. The 13 conchos and belt buckle of different designs are beautifully complementary together. The outstanding craftsmanship of the artisan is evident in the superior quality of the stamp work.
Each concho measures approximately 1 7/8 inches wide by 1 5/8 inches high and each is mounted on a leather backing. The conchos are attached with a slide attachment so that conchos can be adjusted in position on the belt. The large concho belt buckle measures 2 5/8 inches wide by 2 1/4 inches high. The leather belt measures 3/4 inch wide by 48 inches long (from buckle end to leather end). The reverse of the buckle concho is stamped "Swan" "Taos". The belt is black or dark brown leather and has some normal wear.
The conchos are old and to preserve the historic look, the patina remains - we do not polish these older pieces.
