\"TEDDY AND THE BEAR\" antique Theodore Roosevelt ceramic caricature vase.

3 3/4 inches tall. Maker unknown. Circa 1904. Shows Roosevelt in military Rough Rider uniform kneeling at one side of tree trunk, with his hat on the ground, and a bear climbing the opposite side of the tree. Title is impressed on front of tree trunk. \"MADE IN GERMANY\" impressed on back of tree, with numbers \"11\" and \"3573\" impressed below, just above bottom rim.

I\'ve seen pictures of another version of this vase which show Roosevelt holding his famous metaphorical \"big stick\", but this example has no stick, and seems to show him just reaching to pick up his hat.

Vase was glazed in white and green, and had other colors painted on over the glaze. Much of the paint is worn off from Roosevelt\'s uniform and the bear\'s brown fur, and the glaze has several burst bubble spots from the firing process, mostly around the edges of the base.

Otherwise, vase is undamaged and in good condition, with no chips or cracks in the clay.
