This pendant has all the elements of a great gem. It is so hard to find these eminently wearable Belle Epoque jewels! The extraordinary pendant is of the most beautifully modeled bear holding a pearl ball. The craftsmanship of the jewel is of the very highest quality and it has extraordinary details in the wonderful mouth, nose, ears and fur. It is absolutely the work of a master craftsman very possibly Cartier or Faberge. The pendant is very possibly Russian. It is 14K gold. The pendant dates to c1860 - 1900.
The sale is only for the pendant, the chain is not included.
The pendant comes from a prominent New York city estate. In a fine antique jewelry store this would be approximately $2,000. And nature inspired jewels are all the rage today. Look at the photos from Veranda I have included with the prices!
The pendant is in good condition. The pearl is a gorgeous silvery white pearl. There is a tiny crack on the inside of one arm of the bear - this does not detract from the piece in my opinion but I wanted to mention it. The gold tests for 14K. The bales may be later additions. The pendant weighs 0.7 grams.
