Nawang Gombu (Nepali: नवांग गोम्बु born 1935 – April 24, 2011)[1] was a Nepalese Sherpa mountaineer.

Gombu was born in Khumbu, Nepal, as did many of his relatives including his uncle Tenzing Norgay. He was the youngest Sherpa to reach 26,000ft. In 1964, he became the first Nepalese and the third man in the world to summit Nanda Devi (24,645ft). In 1965, he became the first man in the world to have climbed Everest twice—a record that would remain unbroken for almost 20 years.

Tenzing Norgay OSN GM (late May 1914 – 9 May 1986), born Namgyal Wangdi and often referred to as Sherpa Tenzing, was a Nepalese Sherpa mountaineer.[1] Among the most famous mountain climbers in history, he was one of the first two individuals known to have reached the summit of Mount Everest, which he accomplished with Edmund Hillary on 29 May 1953.[2] He was named by Time as one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century.
