Items listed this week are all from a private collection, specially priced for this week only. This is a fine original painting by the well-known and Hugo-award nominated illustrator Darrell K. Sweet (August 15, 1934 – December 5, 2011), commissioned for the cover illustration of the 6th novel in Piers Anthony\'s popular \"Apprentice Adept\" series, published by Berkley Books, 1989 (cover shown for reference). This image was also seen in his Fantasy Card Set, as card #24, titled \"Interrupted Journey\" (pub FPG, 1994). Darrell\'s totally original, signature style of painting made all of Anthony\'s books instantly recognizable to readers for years, and this painting is representative of what made his images so attractive. Since Darrell\'s death very few of his paintings have come to market, so this re-sale presents a rare opportunity for fans of the genre to pick up a marvelous example of his work. This is a colorful, detailed painting in acrylics on gypsum board (the artist\'s favorite substrate) with dimensions 27.5\" x 20\" and also comes custom framed (unglazed). I have taken a few photos to show his typical signature in initials \"DKS\" - found bottom center of the painting - and also to show some of the tremendous detailing. . . for example, the small creatures found along the bottom, that are difficult to see in the larger photos. This painting was particularly difficult to photograph because of the contrast between background and foreground without picking up alot of glare...the winged bird/creature is a bright blue against a bright orange/red background. The frame is a fine gold gilded wood. Sweet\'s cover paintings for Anthony\'s books are especially prized, and it\'s rare to find one of this quality at this price - so if you want a bargain on this great piece you\'ll have to act this week...
