Michael,” or “Who is like to God?” Such was the cry of the great Archangel when he smote the rebel Lucifer in the conflict of the heavenly hosts, and from that hour he has been known as “Michael,” the captain of the armies of God, the champion of every faithful soul in strife with the powers of evil. She invokes him by name in her confession of sin, summons him to the side of her children in the agony of death, and chooses him as their escort from the chastening flames of purgatory to the realms of holy light. Lastly, when Antichrist shall have set up his kingdom on earth, it is Michael who will unfurl once more the standard of the Cross, sound the last trumpet, and binding together the false prophet and the beast, hurl them for all eternity into the burning pool.

Σύντομο βιογραφικό Αρχάγγελου Μιχαήλ

Ο Αρχάγγελος Μιχαήλ είναι ο μόνος που ονομάζεται αρχάγγελος κατά την Αγία Γραφή. Επίσης ονομάζεται «ένας των πρώτων αρχόντων» και «άρχων». Το όνομά του σημαίνει:

«Ποιος Είναι Όμοιος με τον Θεό;».

Πιστεύεται ότι ήταν ο ταξιάρχης Μιχαήλ εκείνος ο άγγελος ο οποίος εμφανίζεται στις Εβραϊκές Γραφές (Παλαιά Διαθήκη), και μάλιστα από τις πρώτες στιγμές δημιουργίας του κόσμου. Ήταν εκείνος που ανήγγειλε στον Αβραάμ την ανάγκη θυσίας του γιου του, Ισαάκ και ο οποίος στη συνέχεια την απέτρεψε. Επίσης ο Μιχαήλ ήταν εκείνος που οδήγησε το λαό του Ισραήλ στη φυγή από την Αίγυπτο. Διέσωσε, από την πτώση τις αγγελικές δυνάμεις με το «στώμεν καλώς, στώμεν μετά φόβου» και για την παρρησία του ο Τριαδικός Θεός του έδωσε τη θέση του «Άρχοντος των αγγελικών Ταγμάτων». Πιστεύεται ότι με εντολή του Θεού οι Πρωτόπλαστοι εκδιώχθηκαν από τον Παράδεισο από τον Αρχάγγελο Μιχαήλ.

Στην Καινή Διαθήκη, αυτός είναι που θα αναγγείλει τη δεύτερη έλευση του Ιησού Χριστού και την αρπαγή της εκκλησίας Του. (1 Θεσσαλονικείς 4:16-17) Εμφανίζεται προφητικά να ηγείται στρατιάς αγγέλων σε πόλεμο στον ουρανό, κατά «του μεγάλου Δράκοντα, του αρχαίου φιδιού, του Σατανά» και των αγγέλων του, όπου υπερισχύει ο Μιχαήλ και τους ρίχνει στη γη.
