This work is clearly meant for the serious photographer, be him an enthusiast or her a professional. Looking through the pages of volume one, the contents of which I will list below, I found the pictures, diagrams and information genuinely compelling and informative, even in this age of digital photography. This information is not just for old-school adherents, it will provide many details of how to improve your work with modern equipment. The overall condition of this set is solid and usable, very good if you are wanting to use it as a reference or for reading. For the collector, the condition is fair, I think. Although the bindings are solid, some of the volumes have slight looseness to them. The spines and boards in many cases have frayed edges and spots of wear, scratches, etc.from being handled. The interiors to these books are in decent condition though, having not yellowed much, if at all, and having nice clean edges. I saw no dogears, torn or creased pages, or marks like handwritingin my general inspection, but I wouldn\'t be surprised to hear that some are in the set somewhere.
