Just in time for the 2017 celebration of the bicentennial of his birth, we are pleased to offer a complete boxed set, The Journal of Henry David Thoreau, comprising 14 soft cover volumes and a Botany Index. This reprint set was published in 1984 by Gibbs M. Smith, Salt Lake City Utah.
Though excerpts of Thoreau\'s journals have been printed over the years, most under the title The Heart of Thoreau\'s Journals, complete sets (including modern reprints) are scarce.
Each volume covers a specific period of time. While Volume 1 covers a ten year period (1837-1847), the other volumes cover a much shorter period. This coincides with a change in Thoreau\'s approach to keeping a journal, his writing (and revising earlier pieces) and travelling more frequently.
The Botanical Index (whose Table of Contents appear in the last photo above) covers Thoreau as a naturalist as well as providing detailed information on the plant life near Walden Pond.
Book Conditions : Very Good; no text marks; occasional spine end wear (from removal and replacement of books into box); some page tip creasing; majority of wear is to the first volume as it is was most effected by removal from the box. Series appears unread.
Box Condition : Fair; both ends detached partially or fully at one point and have been tape repaired. Simply put there is minimal space /\"wiggle room\" to remove and replace the books. leading to the ends coming off.
