40 Pages, one map foldout, one bound-in sheet music\"The Story of Mr. Charles Coborn\'s FAMOUS SONG

MR. CHARLES DEVILLE WELLS
Gambler and Confidence Trickster, Who Won From Investors and Casinos Together
OVER THREE MILLION FRANCSTogether With Sheet Music, Maps, Photographs and Humourous Illustrations of the
Beaux Arts Masterpiece,
THE CASINO DE MONTE CARLO!\"\"The Man That Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo\" was a ripped-from-the-headlines song of 1892, based on the exploits of Charles Wells, who in three memorable visits to the Casino in Monaco, took over two and a half million francs from that establishment at roulette. In those days \"breaking the bank\" wasn\'t as gaudy as it sounds - it simply meant winning all the available cash from a single table, which would be covered with a black cloth, \"in mourning\", until more money could be brought up from the vault. This little book tells Well\'s (ultimately sad) story, and celebrates Fred Gilbert\'s wonderful ear-worm of a music hall classic. I\'ve included a copy of the sheet music bound into the book, so you won\'t be able to get the melody out of your head, either. The book is bound in Art Nouveau paper with a metallic gold spine, and contains not only the sheet music, but a fold-out map of the Casino and grounds from 1879.
