This is the Fourth Edition written by Captain R.M. Pugsley, Late Master, US Transport Service. Published by New Jersey Paint Works / Harry Louderbough, Inc 1918.
Full title is: \"A handy reference work for the use of navigators, yachtsmen and students of navigation explaining how to find latitudeand longitude by observation, and many other useful calculations and tables\"...Yes, that is the full title!
Book is 159 pages withdiagrams and illustrations in the text anda large fold-out sheet of \'Pugsley\'s Current-Course Projector\'. Included are several full page color lithographs with New Jersey Paint Works advertisements. This book is beautifully worn with all stains kept to the cover. Interior pages and advertisements are wonderfully intact. Though some pages are loose we believe every thing is here for this 1918 edition. The first leaf is a stunning multi-color advertisement for NJ Paint Works.
The lithos are beautiful and important to 20th century navigation, transportation and advertising collections.
Harry Louderbough owned the NJ Paint Works paint factory in the late 1800\'s and banked the publication of these books partly through his great ads. These books were working guides to many a captain along the Eastern shoreline in the early 1900\'s. Only a few were made and even less remain.
The tan cloth cover and binding has simple black lettering with lots of age on it... and mug rings. Book has a slight bow which is slowly flattening out with time. Some minor wear on the corners. The paper pull out is in good shape with staining where the page was glued.Please see photos for better detail and condition views.

This is a very nice and very important early maritime book that was truly an impressive undertaking for the time.
