Publisher: J.M. Dent & Sons, Ltd, 1913, fourth edition (first published 1904). Publisher’s red cloth with titles and decorations in gilt on the spine and top board. Top edges gilt, other edges uncut.

This is a lovely collection of stories featuring First Nation (Native American) characters, beautifully illustrated in line by H.R. Millar, who is well known for his illustrations for the books of E. Nesbit. There are 28 stories in the book, each of which has its own illustrated title vignette, and there are further illustrations both full-page and within the text.

The book is in very good condition. The cloth is somewhat mottled, but the gilt is nice and bright. There is a discreet school prize bookplate on the front endpaper, and a very few light smudges. The mull shows between signatures in two places, but the book is still tightly bound. In places the fore edges have been raggedly cut when first opened. The book is mainly clean and bright and tightly bound.

Octavo, 20cm tall, xii, 354 pages.
