The original oil painting by Molinda Sunde\' Parker was inspired by a momentous political change during the present time in America’s history. The election and reelection of the first Black president represents a turning point in our history. Over the centuries, artists have been the chroniclers of history, capturing major events on canvas for future generations to see. In that tradition, this painting is the first in a series depicting America’s modern presidents and capturing the important events that shaped their legacies.

The illustrative style of this painting includes images that reflect not only the inauguration, but the visual elements that represent the history and the foundation upon which this country was created.

The configuration of the Flag and the depiction of the crowd in front of the Washington Monument were taken from actual photos of the inauguration event. One of the background portraits shows the president’s expression as he looks at the mall view for the last time.
