Up for sale is a great example of Tomas Aloysius \"TAD\" Dorgan\'s book \"Indoor Sports\"This collection of TAD\'s comic strip panels straight from the funny pages in the era when newspapers and magazines were the sole sources of news and a major source for popular culture and entertainment. TAD is considered one of the greatest inventors of American slang and is responsible for such terms as \'dumb bell\', \'for crying out loud\' and \'hot dog\'. This book includes many variations on his \'the lights are on but nobody\'s home\' gag. Dorgan was friends with many great writers and sports figures from the era including Ring Lardner and the heavyweight boxing champ Jack Johnston. Johnston gave a eulogy at Dorgan\'s funeral and dedicated his last newspaper column to his friend and supporter TAD. This book was made into a silent movie in the early 1920s (bearing the same title, it can be found on youtube). This hard cover paper over bookboard book measures 9\" x 6\" x 3/8\" and is in worn condition. Originally the cover would have been green but it has faded. Some of the paper has chipped away and the corners are broken. The back has a small red stain. Inside the pages are browned on the edges and this is most prominent on the pages at the beginning and the end of the book which is often the case in pulp books from this era. The pages are all complete and as the photos illustrate are still tight and still curl when the book is opened and laid flat.
