Thomas Fairfax, 6th Lord Fairfax of Cameron(October 22, 1693– December 9, 1781) was aScottish peer.He was the son of Thomas Fairfax, 5th Lord Fairfax of Cameronand of Catherine, daughter of Thomas Culpeper, 2nd Baron Culpeper.

He was the only resident peerin late Colonial America,Fairfaxadministered his vastNorthern Neck Proprietary.—a Virginia Land Grantdating back to 1649— from his wilderness estate atGreenway Court, Virginia.Various place names in Northern Virginiaand the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginiaare named for him—most notably Fairfax County, Virginia.

In 1719,Fairfaxcame into possession of the vastCulpeper family estates in Virginia\'s Northern Neck Proprietarybetween the Rappahannockand Potomac Rivers.These lands included a great portion of the Shenandoah and South Branch Potomacvalleys, in all consisting of some 5,282,000 acres. Struggling to keep up an expensive lifestyle and maintain Leeds Castle, Fairfax relied on the income from his Virginia tract, both from the sale of land and the annualQuit Rents,paid by planters who settled in theNorthern Neck.

Lord Fairfax travelled to Virginiafor the first time between 1735 and 1737 to inspect and protect his lands.The northwestern boundary of his Northern Neck Proprietarywas marked in 1746 by theFairfax Stoneat the headwaters of the North Branch Potomac River.He then became active in developing his lands and collecting ground rents.

Fairfax was the only resident Peerin the Thirteen Colonies.In 1748, he made the acquaintance ofGeorge Washington, then a youth of 16, a distant relative of the YorkshireFairfax family. Impressed withWashington\'senergy and talents,Lord Fairfaxemployed him(Washington\'s first employment) to surveyhis lands lying west of the Blue Ridge.

Though an avowedLoyalist, Fairfaxkept quiet and was known to be close toWashington during the American Revolution. He was never insulted or molested. Less than two months after the 1781 defeat of the British invaders at Yorktown, the 88-year-old Fairfax died at his seat at Greenway Court.

Condition:It is In very good condition, with heavy intersecting storage folds with overall wear, scattered creases and soiling, and writing and signature rather faded and difficult to read.

Please note that some DVDs that are out of stock might take 5 business days to reach us from manufacturer before they ship to International destinations, from us, so on those shipments the normal time would be 15 days instead of 10. If that is a problem please ask ahead of time whether they are in stock or not. USA customers buying DVDs is not a problem as the out of stock DVDs are drop shipped from manufacturer within 24 hours of payment received.

We use a professional shipper and you are being charged the actual shipping charges based on weight and location. We always will combine shipping when possible. For foreign customers we will address their specific needs also.
