About this Item:

Thomas W. Egan (1836 - February 24, 1887), Union Army officer in the American Civil War, authentic, autographed vintage handwritten letter (ALS), dated January 6, 1863. Egan led the Mozart Regiment through most of the War, later becoming promoted to general.

Egan led the regiment at the Battles of Second Bull Run, Chantilly, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and Wilderness. He was wounded at Gettysburg and had two horses shot under him.

Egan writes inpart,“Dear Charley, You have probably received a satisfactory letter on this, but I will drop you a line, nevertheless. I have already attended to the matter & enclosed your copies of documents."

The letter is written and signed "T.W. Egan"in fountain pen and measures approximately 7.75" x 9.75" in size. The signed letter is in fine condition.The letter is accompanied by an additional original, unrelated, handwritten copied letter, written on Egan’s behalf, in an unknown hand, likely an assistant of Egan’s.
