Tiffany & Co. 14K Bloomed Yellow Gold & Turquoise Earrings

Victorian Era circa 1880 with original fitted box.

Original box is black with gold trim on exterior.

Interior has purple velvet with Tiffany & Co. New York & Paris France below it.

Paris France imprinted which dates it to 1878 or older as this location was 79 Rue de Richelie (opened in 1850).

Designed with smooth gold finish on back but intricate detail on round earrings on front.

Shepards hook fastening with 3 turquoise stones on each earrings.

Measures 3/4\" - 1\" in length & 1/2\" in width at bottom portion of earring shaped like a ball.

Bottom portion that is shaped like a ball while top portion sows scalloped detail with tiny gold balls in center.

Measures 3.97 Grams.

What does it mean when it is bloomed gold ?

Blooming was a popular finishing technique for karat gold jewelry from 1870 - 1890.

The 1st documented technique of blooming was in 1853& effect is leaves it a soft matte gold finish.

It has been described as reminiscent of the soft skin found on a peach.

Process was done by dipping into a boiling mixture referred to as colouring.

Resulting sheen was termed bloom.

Creates a allow free thin layer of soft pure gold from this process.

The bloomed gold has etched detail.

This makes it very much of this era along with the shepards hook fastening & style of the earrings.

Original fitted box shows the timeframe of the earrings & will come with the earrings.

These were purchased years ago at a local jeweler that buys & sells antique estate jewelry & is authentic with original box.

I have not found anything alike this to compare & there\'s a local Tiffany but to get appraisal it would require to ship to Tiffany\'s in New York.

These earrings are really unique & can be worn everyday & can dress up.
