For your consideration, an early uprightthree-tier pen rack in the Grapevine pattern by Tiffany Studios New York; anexample of which is pictured on page 91 of Holland’s Tiffany Desk Sets.

This pen rack begins withits beautifully patinated metalwork in shades of chocolate chestnuts and mossygreens. The main plate of the rack bears its signature grapevine patterning backedby glass of classic Tiffany styling in spring hues of Kelly and emerald greens,striated with white, and accentuated by currents of shadowy blue. In thismetalwork are distinct grape boughs which, coupled with the more open filigree,mark this as an earlier example of the pattern. Framing the main plate is atrim of patinated bronze that supports three rows of hooks, each row meant to holda pen. On the reverse side, the framing supports two fancifully modeled bracesthat allow the rack to rest in sturdy repose. It is on this framing that thepen rack is properly stamped “TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK”. Giventhat the Grapevine pattern falls under the Etched Metal and Glass designumbrella, it is not uncommon for early examples such as this to bear only thestudio signature without the registration numbers that became common later inproduction.

Condition: Very good to excellent with wear to finish and patina commensuratewith age. Measures approximately 5 ¼” by 4 ¼”.
