tiny 2 1/8\" tall square-shaped beautiful DEEP PURPLE colored antique PHARMACY or PATENT (quack) MEDICINE bottle. This is a very early hand Blown Into Mold bottle (BIM) with a tooled top, dating back to the very early Embossed: \"E.S. REED\'S SONS / ATLANTIC CITY\", with the \"W. T. Co.\" base embossing, from the old Whitall Tatum glass factory back in New Jersey.

  • Age: An early hand-blown bottle (Blown-In-Mold = BIM) with a sheared-top, ca. very early-1900.

  • Shipping: All DOMESTIC shipping charges INCLUDE insurance. We have enjoyed shipping our items all over the world and are happy to offer most of our items to international buyers. Yet insuring International parcels is very expensive so PLEASE NOTE; we do NOT insure International orders unless winning buyer specifically requests this and we are able to provide an insurance quote. We do not falsify information on the Customs Form, such as a price other than what the actual purchase price is, so please do not request us to do so. We ship several times a week and send payment acknowledgments and shipping confirmations. Your prompt payment will assure a very quick turn-around time. IMPORTANT NOTE: If our shipping charge is much more than the actual shipping cost, we will refund the excess so what YOU pay for shipping/insurance is very close to, if not exactly, the ACTUAL shipping costs! • A great looking little bottle, the color is a BEAUTIFUL deep purple AMETHYST COLOR. This size is about as small of a pharmacy bottle than we\'ve ever seen, what, about a 1/4 ounce size? And then the Atlantic City embossing also attracts attention as many folks are desirous of having an antique souvenir from OLD Atlantic City. A few more things about this bottle. I believe that E. S. Reeds\' Sons operated a pharmacy out on or around the board walk of old Atlantic City, over a century ago, which is about when this little bottle came into being. They also put out a beautiful milk glass antique bottle with an embossed picture of the Jersey Devil on it, and it contained a sunburn lotion that cured sun burn. This too would lend itself to the idea that the company was around the old board walk of the Jersey shore. It was much later in time when the pharmacy closed it\'s doors and as much more time passed, some of these little bottles were discovered, still in their original boxes having never been filled or gone to market, at a local dumping site near the pharmacy location. Now I am not familiar with the area of and around Atlantic City, but this is the story that came with these little bottles when we first got them. At the time the price was high and the bottles seemed pretty boring as we prefer WESTERN glass. But as time goes by, they seem to be getting better. The small size of them, the Atlantic City embossing, and the purple color all seem to be growing in popularity. The beautiful purple amethyst color of this glass is the result of the presence of manganese in the glass, a mineral that was pulverized and added to vats of liquid glass that acted as a decolorizing agent to turn the glass crystal clear. Exposure to ultraviolet rays of the sun or other sources of UV rays, triggers a chemical reaction and the manganese oxidizes and turns a wonderful amethyst color. Many of our amethyst bottles have been purpled from years of exposure to natural sunlight, others have been purpled with the use of strong UV lights in a box, and still others have been purpled by running them through a sterilization (radiation) process, a safe and permanent process which does the same thing as exposure to natural sunlight, except much faster. Though some \"purists\" will suggest that this lavender color has been artificially produced or altered, the only thing that is artificial or altered is the time period it took to turn purple. Whether a bottle has been purpled by the sun, by UV rays in a box, or by a sterilization process, they all turn the same purple color as it is the same chemical reaction taking place. With few exceptions, only clear glass from before 1914 will turn sun-colored-amethyst. In summary, this is just a great looking little bottle and the dwindling number of these that we still have left, can now be counted on one hand. Once they\'re gone, that\'s it. A great looking little colored bottle, check it out!
