Tortuga Gold Rum Bottle 1 Liter - Kingston, Jamaica:
$15.00

This bottle is a Tortuga Gold Rum bottle from the Cayman Islands, British West Indies. This contained Fine Indian Rums blended and bottled in Jamaica. Christopher Columbus was the first person to discover the Cayman Islands. His son wrote: “We were in sight of two very small and low islands full of tortoises as was the sea all about, insomuch that they looked like rocks.” It is for this reason that the Cayman Islands were originally called Las Tortugas meaning “The Turtles”. Legend has it that the first settlers were deserters from Cromwell’s army after the Cayman Islands were ceded to Britain in 1670 by the Treaty of Madrid. Caribbean pirates found the islands a convenient stop-over to replenish their supplies, including the legendary rum. Bottle stands 12 1/2\" Tall X 3 1/4\" in diameter. Please see photos as part of the conditions. Label is almost perfect.
