THIS HIGHLY UNUSUAL PIECE IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF TROMPE L\'OEIL, POPULAR WITH ROYALTY DURING THE RUSSIAN IMPERIAL PERIOD. IT IS SOME TYPE OF TRINKET BOX MADE OF 84 RUSSIAN STANDARD SILVER IN THE FORM OF A LOAF OF BREAD AND EVEN CARRIES A CROWN PRINCE CREST MONOGRAM ON THE UNDERSIDE. IT MEASURES 4 INCHES WIDE,BY 2 1/2 INCHES DEEP, BY 2 3/4 INCHES TALL. THE INSIDE IS GILDED. IT IS FULLY HALLMARKED, BOTH ON THE BOTTOM EXTERIOR PORTION OF THE LOAF AND THEINTERIOR OF THE LID. THE TOTAL WEIGHT OF THIS LOAF BOXIS 163.6 GRAMS OF .875 SOLID SILVER.
THE REALISTIC DESIGN OF THE LOAF HAS MANY INHERENT IMPERFECTIONS INCLUDING LUMPS, BUMPS, AND INDENTATIONS.THE LID FITSALMOST PERFECTLY.THE ONLY OBVIOUS CONDITION ISSUE, OTHER THAN PATINA, AND TARNISH,IS ON THE UNDERSIDE WHERE THERE IS A LONG DIAGONAL SCRATCH.
