Offered here is a circa 1940 Navaho weaving that measures 3 feet 8inches long by 2 foot 6 incheswide or 44” x 30”. It is attributed tothe Tuba City, Arizona weaving area and is in excellent condition. It was hand-woven by an expert weaver on aprimitive upright loom of all Native handshorn, handcarded and smoothly handspunsilky long staple Churro and Churro cross sheep wool, both weft & warp. This is a very nice, very smoothly woven old Tuba City, AZstorm pattern weaving that displays great on a wall or on the floor.

We recently obtained this vintage Native Americantextile on a rug hunt here in Santa Fe, New Mexico just to offer you hereon . It has a smooth, even weftcount averaging 24 per inch and a warp count of 7 per inch. The selvage cords are all in original, excellent condition. Warp selvages are2-spiral cords and weft selvages are natural weft loop finished around theoutside warps. The corners are all fourtight, original and in excellent condition. The tassels are: 3 original and one replaced. It is pretty clean now & comes from anon-smoking home. There is a place inthe end stripe at 1 end that looks to have had a couple of broken warpsrepaired. Both sides are even in patterncolor and shown in photos above. Colorsare great in this piece of old American Indian art and they are: hand carded and blended natural brownish grey& ivory white along with hand dyed aniline black, gold and rust red. Completewith a Spirit Trail or weaver’s pathway, this example of great NativeAmericana is ready to tuck away in your own private rug & blanketcollection. (2264LEZ)
