A Raphael Tuck and Sons\' \"Happy Hooligan\" series of Valentines Post Cards, No. 5. The card is copy righted 1904 by permission of \"The New York American\" The \"American\' was a morning paper published by William Randolph Hearst from 1895 til 1937. “RaphaelTuck and Sons” was a company founded in 1866 by Raphael Tuck, aseller of furniture and picture frames who became a important dealer ofpopular lithographic prints. His 3 sons joined him as they grew up. When Raphael retired in 1881, his sonAdolph took over the family business. He opened offices in New Yorkin 1882 and Paris in 1885. When postal regulations were finallychanged, in 1889, after much lobbying by Tuck and others, Tuck immediatelybegan the printing of postcards and The \"Tuck\" company continued to be a major printerof Post Cards and other printed material, ran by family members, until 1953. The card has usual wear with a crease lower bottom and the corners have some wear. There is also some soiling on the card. Please see the Scan for details.
